According to a study prepared for the FINRA Investor Education Foundation, 80 percent of American investors report that they have been solicited to participate in a fraud scheme, while 11 percent of American investors report that they personally lost money as a result of fraud.

• Unsuitable Investments: Many financial advisors are not fiduciaries. Instead, they are held to the suitability standard.
